1.To check the batter if all ok, and need suitable charge.
2.usually, the battery needs 8 hours to charge. Take our battery for example,it would divide to three steps to make sure, the charge is filled.
when after 8 hours, it can work one day, then the used battery is fine. If battery work a little time, we need to check it.
3.Usually, once a month, the battery need maintenance.

It seems to be simple mathematics. It is only a question of "when" you will buy the new battery. You can either buy it now with the truck or later when the used one craps out. My suggestion is to buy the truck with the used battery. Any amount of time that it lasts is a bonus because at some point you will need to replace it...and right now the price of batteries is through the roof and are fictitously high because of speculators in the market.

Hopefully all the cells are working. Each cell should provide between 1.94 volts fully discharged to 2.20 fully charged. You should be looking for all the cells to be more or less the same, any variation is a bad sign. The same goes for the SG readings. These should also be checked. If any cells are noticeably lower/higher than others this is also a bad sign. Ideally both these measurements should be taken when the battery is fully charged and fully discharged to give you an accurate picture of the batteries condition. You still need to know the age of the battery you are purchasing, the serial number on the battery data plate should have this on and if you are lucky the installation date. If you only have the serial number, ring up your local Deka dealer and they will be able to date the battery for you.

Unfortunately the supplier has told me there is no way they could guarentee a used battery. They are offering a new one for around $4,000 dollars and would give me a $500 discount if I opted not to take the used one. It seems to me that it is worth the gamble to take the used battery and then purchase a new one if need be rather than take $500.

Is there a way to check how many cells are still working? I apologize if my questions sound foolish I have not been able to find information regarding the topic. I am not looking to safeguard against all problems just hoping to take all possible precautions so as not to purchase a used battery that will last 2 days.

Get some form of guarantee from your supplier. The age of the battery is important. If used hard , 5 years is a good guide for the life expectancy of a standard lead acid traction battery. A battery can last 10 years and beyond on lighter applications (charged once or twice a week).
