331 on an SC4500 and SC5200 is the steer pot, sits on top of the rear steer assembly behind Access3

Hello, just want to know if error 331 of rr5010-35 is the same with sc4200? All functions are working but keep showing 331code with wrench on display. Thanks

If you are going from the older rectangle encoder to the updated round style. You will need a software update. You will need software version 13 or greater for DC truck or version 3 or greater on an AC truck. Unfortunately this normally requires a service call from your Crown dealer. As far as I know Crown will not allow software updates on NON company/dealership laptops. And even the software they send out to dealerships is time/installation encrypted and self destructs after. Mission impossible type stuff. haha

I am getting code 331. I ordered a new encoder. This encoder looks different. I see the instructions say there are three different types. Are they interchangeable ? I installed it but it still codes out. Thank Dano

Well I am happy to report, the unit is back up and running. Thank you LumberJack and Crownie for your insight and knowledge, sure enough the PVA was bad and it took a couple of days to get it after ordering it but it was worth the wait. The flat battery issue was solved rather quickly by putting the battery on the charger, I only wish the guy who runs that forklift would of told me he drained the battery trying to make the forks move from where they got stuck LOL.
Again thank you for your help, I don't think I would have figured it out and probably going nuts checking continuity on every wire I could find.

fault 226 is proportional valve accessory (PVA) open circuit.
PVA is on hydraulic manifold under right side dash (under right elbow when driving fork) should have 24v pos when standing on pedals, access 2 supplies negative on demand
go into service mode level 2 and check fault totals as often when a fork logs multiple codes at the same time only one will log into history.
fault 832 is under voltage lockout, usually flat battery

Thanks Crownie, sure enough, the wire was broken right at the spot where it meets the connector at plain sight it seems to be undisturbed but a continuity test showed it was broken so after taking a real good look at it you could feel where the insulation was holding it to the connector but the wire inside was broken... Well the good news is that has been solved, 331 gets officially taken of the board, but taking your advice I went ahead and checked for fault codes again and I got two others 226 and 832 more specifically L1-L8 were 226 and L9-L12 were 832. Any idea what those two refer to?

Fault 331 is the traction encoder
the little sensor on top of the brakes on the drive motor
most common cause is a broken wire at the plug connector
very hard to see the broken wire, i have had many techs guarantee the wires are ok, yet when i go out the wire is broken
anyway back to your problem, fault 331 will not disable hydraulics, will only disable drive
check last several fault codes as you may have multiple faults or have lost your 5 volt rail

Well, it would still go up if it was a slack chain situation. I was thinking maybe it was at the top already.

So I'd look at the common wire to those hydraulic switches then. Maybe even a control fuse? or a connector loose.

I will check your recommendations Lumberjack, the machine makes no attempt to lift or descend, there is no response to the joystick, it has not gone up very high, only to the top of the first section of the lift tower... Going to check for the slack chain switch and the wiring for the hydraulic control switches.. Thank you Lumberjack

If anyone has a description for this code 331 any additional info will be appreciated...

I don't have a book for this one but does the truck have a slack chain switch? I would look for any wires going up the carriage to any kind of interlock switch. Does the machine try to lift, but it's already at the top of it's travel?

Other than that I'd look at the wiring to the hydraulic control switches.
