Discussion:
engine stalls when brake pedal applied

I am working on a 02-5fg30 toyota with the 4y motor. On idle, all controls including steering can be operated with no trouble but the moment you step on brake pedal the motor dies. It can be operated but it takes both feet. The master cylinder is plumbed to all the hydraulics. Help please.

I'm pretty sure the word "fin" is a typo and should read "in the hydraulic circuit".
If the engine idle RPM is too low, and there is no "idle up" vacuum dashpot on the mixer throttle lever to advance the throttle when the engine RPM lowers.........it pretty much a sure thing that the engine will be choked out on these active hydraulic power brakes systems in the 5F series trucks.
Lots folks have had to retro fit idle up dashpots on 5F models that have Impco LP equipment.

Sorry im just getting back here, i was waiting for email notification. Can you please tell me where this diverter valve fin is located? When other functions are maxed out it stalls too but the big concern is the more pressure applied to brake pedal gradually lugs motor until it stalls. Is this diverter located in master cylinder or valve body controls? Stumped

The brakes are fed hyd. oil through a diverter valve fin the hydraulic circuit which feeds the "master cylinder". I would suspect the diverter valve to be faulty.
