Discussion:
Starts after key release

I have a FGCU70 with the 4.3 Vortec. It is powered with LPG. It is just over a year old.
My question is can anyone tell me why when I crank it it will not start until I release the key?
It turns over great. New battery and good clean connections. Timming is good. It just wont start till you let go of the key.
I posted this in the 7fg20 section before I realized I could add a model. Sorry for double post.
Thanks for any help with this.

As someone else said, run a new ground cable from battery to engine. This is straight from Toyota.

That is probably a good idea. So far the cleaning on the cables has worked but I did notice one if my Hysters has the same problem.
I am going to try and fix that one Wednesday.
I think I will try the extra cable and see if it helps. Thanks for the help Kris

Run a second ground cable from the engine to the frame where the battery negative cable attaches.

Finally after checking every wire on this truck I got it.
I took the ground cable off battery where it connects to frame of truck and even though it appeared clean I cleaned a little more and tightned cables (three 0f them) back to frame and it starts as it should.
Can't believe how simple the fix was.
Just thought I would pass this on in case anyone else runs across this problem.

Thanks Damo, I will give that a shot at tracking it down. I didn't know if maybe the ignition switch itself was bad. Might know this would happen just after warranty expired.
Anyway I will get on it tomorrow and I will let you know if I have any luck.
Thanks again.
