Discussion:
Question for Crown gurus

Hi there,

Have a customer that just inherited 4 sp3000's.
He runs a raymond wire guide system in the warehouse.
He was trying to get the local crown dealer to quote him on adding wire guidance to those units, but it seems to be over their heads as they refuse to quote!

I was wondering if:

a) Is there more to it than adding the box, antennas?
b) is there a kit that crown sells?
c) Is there a crown guru that would be willing to help me through this by providing p/n's etc...?
(obviously all parts would have to come through a crown dealer, so I could buy through the helpers location)
D) any idea on price?

Thanks in advace,

Mike N

I told Norm to call arpac, right off the bat.
He replied that he did, and that he'd waited ~2 weeks for a reply... even going so far as to leave multiple messages that didn't get returned.

At which point he phoned me... (or so he says)

So, someone's story must be wrong...

I wasn't trying to step on any toes, just help a long time customer.

Mike, take a look at my name, I think you should have no trouble figuring out who I am.And it was a salesman, not a tech.
This was quoted in a very timley manner, customer has even been contacted by the service manager, however it wasn't Norm that it was sent to.He's just shopping which is his right to do,unfortunatley being a modification it has to go through the dealer.Steps are being taken to solve his problems. Thanks

The bitterness of a poor repair remains long after the sweetness of low price is gone.
Can't see any way to pm you...

How exactly do I get the customer to call you?

And yes, Arpac really was contacted. (even had a visit from a tech..)
Customer waited and waited, then called me.

Since you are in AB, the customer is Norm at The Brick in Edmonton.
You, of course, know who the dealer is.

Very strange customer service...

Mike, It's nice to see you're positive comments towards your fellow dealers.I guess nothing changes.
Had any such contact from this particular CROWN user came to the attn of the local dealer he would most certainly be given a quote because this is a modification and requires a CROWN modification request which can only be done through a CROWN dealer.
It is a kit but is quite more expensive on the SP3000 than the SP3200 and most customers opt to upgrade the truck rather than perform the modification.
Now the question of the Crown running on Rayguide is easy to answer,it runs better on the Raymond line than most Raymonds machines and the Crown system is by far the most user friendly for calibration and set up.
Now in saying that I'm not trying to insult Raymond, this is only my opinion.
I generally like to have at least some of my facts straight before I post comments here.

Have a great day Mike (Have your cust call me and I'll take care of him)

Call another Crown dealer, or call Crown at 419-629-2311. There is a kit, and the kit will tell in the instructions how long it should take to install it. However, the list price for the kit is around $8000 last time I checked. It may be more now. This truck used to have Portec wire guidance (tempermental as can be). Barry Miley is a great guy. He is the only one I know in the U.S. that can repair the Portec for the Crown SP3000. Crown now has their own microprocessor controlled wire guidance. It is very dependable and easy to set up.

Try calling Barry Miley at Technical Service assistants.
He may have a kit , but may also need to do the install for you.
This is very common when a truck has to be modified.
