Discussion:
tyre covers

Hi, my name is dave from coverall LTD we have recently been awarded a patent in america and a design registration in UK and the EU for a wheel cover which is universal with just 3 sizes fiting all tyres. the reason for this post is that i was wondering wheather there is a market for our product in the EU. We are currently the leading manufacturer and suplier in the UK with customers all across the country. At the moment we are in talks with the worlds largest parts suplier to distribute our product in the EU mainland, I don't think I need to say any names. I would apreciate any help in the matter and any extra advice that anyone can offer.

Thanks Dave

Hi Vic
As I now work in the powered access industry, having worked for years in the lift truck industry, heres my 2p worth.
These covers are designed to be used with access equipment and I can forsee problems using them with fork trucks.
MEWPS are much slower in operation than trucks and they are mostly driven by hydraulic motors which means they don't have conventional braking systems.
I've spent the last few months dealing with machines operating in shopping malls, and office attriums which includes track driven specialist access equipment, and the only solution with this type of equipment is to use non marking tracks, this I feel is the only workable solution for using lift trucks in these type of environments, in order to keep the traction and braking characteristics unchanged.
ps

Hi, vic The covers are designed to stop tyres on forklifts and access machines leaving marks on finished floors. eg. If an access machine or a forklift needs to go into a newly built car showroom where the floor obviously cant be marked then you would fit the covers to stop this from happening.

As far as we are aware the covers don't affect the traction of the vehicle. The covers also have a certain ammount of traction because of the material they are made from. This along with the weight of the vehicle should keep them firm to the floor. But upto this moment in time we have never had any complaints about the traction and handling of the vehicle while our covers are fitted.
