Recently purchased this forklift for very cheap and looking to get it back into service.
2005 7FGKU40 on Propane
The main problem lies in the hydraulic system.
The mast does not respond to any controls at idle, i have to bring the throttle up to around 1000rpm and the mast starts operating(tilt, lift, and SS)
Steering at idle the wheel turns slightly and then locks right up and if i hold pressure on the wheel it pulses but doesn't make any more turning progress. As with the mast if i bring up the throttle the steering operates normally.
Today i drained the hydraulic tank and checked the suction strainer and return filter. Strainer was not plugged up, and while return filter was due based on hours, it wasn't alarmingly plugged up or dirty. I cant see return filter causing my issues either, the tank had lots of fluid in it at all times.

Yes, the electronic version is posted to the website shown in my signature. It is a large file, simply download it and install. Follow instructions, it helps if you have a fair amount of computer skills to install it. But once installed it works great! All the best.
New pump and filter solved the issue. Took the time to fully clean out the hydraulic tank and drained all the cylinders and lines while i was at it.
Jetty, Id love to have a copy of that parts manual if you have it in an electronic version?
Sounds like you have it pretty much under control which is great. I have a parts number manual for that machine, should you need any numbers..
cut the filter open this afternoon and found glitter so i decided to go straight after the pump. With the pump out i opened it up and found one of the gear sleeves was spun, and a tooth broken off the other gear.
I have now ordered a new pump and new filter which will be here Monday.
I suspected it might be a pump issue but was hoping otherwise. I have not cut the filter open yet.
Has anyone had any experiance rebuilding these pumps? Im going to purchase a gauge to check pressures. Found the full service manual for this machine so i have all the specs now.
Did you slice open the hyd filter with a cutting wheel? Filters open easily and can help shed some light on what may be going on.
You need to run a pressure check. It sounds like a worn out pump. Ideally a flow check would also be a good indicator.
