Discussion:
Forklift motors

Hi, new to the group.

Does anyone in here know everything there is to know about powering up an electric forklift engine?

I have to build a vehicle, and I've opted to use an electric forklift motor, which means I need to establish how you can and can not power it up.

Thanks in advance

Obviously depending on the weight of the vehicle you would need around 200Amps initially to get going so yes you would need batteries and a controller set up.

Do they have to be powered by batteries, or can they be direct wired to an alternator?

Hi Gav,
There are 3 different types of drive motor around at the minute so how you power it would depend on the type. Series wound would be the cheapest and simplest to control but is the oldest and maybe less available now. If you want to email me a bit more info on what you have I'll help out where I can. Email add in my profile.
Cheers,
Simon
