Discussion:
Still R70/80 Diesel, 7045-0778, year1996

Hello all

I have been asked to look at this truck which had some wiring burnt due to an alternator catching on fire...The wiring has been repaired, a new accelerator unit and a handbrake switch has been ordered but not yet fitted.

I have not seen the truck yet but the fault is reported to be no drive. The truck starts okay but does not drive in either direction.

Does anything need to be calibrated or adjusted if the accelerator control unit is replaced? Would this cause a drive fault?

Thanks

Hi All
I have the same issue with the R70-80....No Drive! Swapped all the circuit boards to find no different. Check all the switches, wiring and accelerator and they're all good. Any assistance or even a manual would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys did you say you had a hand brake wiring issue? if so I may be able to shed some light. if the trucks are as old as i think they will have a central panel mounted above the generator. inside this box is two circuit boards one is a pcb and the back one is the power board. depending on how old above these boards is a contactor which enables drive which is switched by the hand brake. later models had the contactor built into the board but still controlled with the hand brake switch.

Alternator on this machine is not 'excited' via the thinnest wire. That wire 'tells' to the controller that voltage is present. Do not overpower this wire! Alternator outputs voltage by remannent magnatisation, al up to 1000 rpm of the engine.
Sistem does not authorise drive without alternator.

Hi there,
This one was a complete basket case as when we scratched beneath the surface it had multiple circuit board failures that made it unviable to proceed with the repair.
Sorry I could not be more help...

Update - I have now been to look at the truck and the problem seems to be the generator is not getting any "excitement" at the field terminals.
Does anyone have a circuit diagram or component diagram of this truck so I can check the wiring etc. Or can anyone offer advise on how the system is designed / which safety devices need to be present.
I have got the unit to drive by completely bypassing the control circuits and powering the field windings manually (with the wheels off the floor) and it drive in both directions depending on polarity...I now need to find out where the fault is in the circuitry.
Thanks in advance

Hi Newspanner,
The will be no drive until the alternator is fitted.
There is a 12 volt tapping off the alternator to energise the traction control board to supply the speed controller.

Bluetooth is named after the 10th-century Viking king, Harald Bluetooth, who united warring tribes in Denmark and Norway. In 1997, Jim Kardach from Intel gave the name to the technology because of its ability to unite different communication protocols, just as Harald united various tribes.
