hi Richard, I had the same problem last week.
you should have ignition feed to coil pos and the two wires from distributor go to pos & Neg terminals. you may also have another wire to coil pos that feeds gas unit.
try replacing the two wires from dist to coil. when I belled out wires they both seemed ok so I bought new distributor module & windings & wasted money!!
replaced wires and away she went!!
