I hope this is about the right place to ask. We have an old 20R40TT (s/N 20B-1691) that has developed a little drift down in it's tilt when loaded. I got the local dealer to come out and have a look, and they measured the drift as happening with the hose reel hooked up. They tested the cylinder and it didn't appear to be the problem, which isn't surprising since it's only a year old. (The old cylinder developed a pinhole leak around the weld).
Their suggested solution is to replace the whole hose reel for about $2100 + installation.
To me that seems a little insane for a couple reasons. One is I thought you couldn't have drift in a hydraulic cylinder unless you had an external leak somewhere or the spool itself was leaking. The other thing is replacing the whole reel seems odd, since I think rebuilding the rotary coupling should be possible? Otherwise the reel and hose are in fine shape. I guess I would understand if the seal kit was NLA to them, but I'm sure I can figure out what o-rings are in there.
There are no obvious external leaks.
Thanks for any thoughts anyone has on this!
