Discussion:
lp fuel

I have an old s150a hyster with a f245 continental with impco fuel system. I have to hold my hand over carb to get it running, It is too lean if I choke the air system it runs fine. I have replaced the diaphram in the ca125 carb and the model J. Anyone have a clue?

yes justinm, good point! when I think about it I have an old syringe that I use with a short length of rubber (can I say that) hose that I use. The syringe is tight enough to hold the vacuum so you can start her up. My dad or was it my granpa? told me about "flat heads and L blocks" no just kidding!
Dave :)
PS We have gone off the subject now guys.....my fault I guess I wonder if Wellfred has fixed it yet.

dont su ck on the tube use a vacuum pump
if the lockoff is bad you might get a mouthful of Liquid Petroleum (ouch)
a flathead is also known as an "L-block"

Hi edward, surprised you are up yet its mid day here! you must be super awake though, your spelling is better than mine (vacuum) Glad you agree, would that be a flat head continental in the Hyster, what we call side valve?

rhymes with "duck"? can you use "vacuum" as a synonym? and I agree with the idea, maybe bypassing the vff30 vacuum lockoff might work for troubleshooting...

you could also *** on the vaccum hose from the carb to the filter lock.............see if it starts then. If it does it could be a tired engine producing little - induction pressure under cranking.

*** the oposite to blow........the forum removes that word!

I am going to assume it has an impco VFF30 vacuum lockout , and a J regulator. Test the pressure coming out of the regulator @ the primary test port. pressures should run @ about 3# depending on atmospheric pressure

Fact of the week
Foundling hatches are safe, anonymous drop-off points for unwanted infants, allowing parents in crisis a way to surrender a baby safely without fear of punishment, ensuring the child is rescued and cared for. The concept started in the 12th century, was abandoned in the late 19th century, then reintroduced in 1952. It has since been adopted in many countries.
