I took the engine out by unbolting the bell housing (complete with torque converter) from the gearbox,
On the gearbox side of the bell housing is an input shaft retained with an external circlip which I have removed ,but the bell housing still refuses to move than about 3/8 of an inch

Are you saying that you took out the engine and automatic transmission as one unit and now want to separate the engine from the trans? Or is this a standard trans?
