Just came back to look around and realized I never answered your question. My build date is 4-11-57 and SN is 31211. I identified my engine as a Continental. I found an old air compressor with the same engine so I trashed the military distributor setup from mine and installed the regular type with new plug wires and solved my ignition problem. I found out the master cylinder is the same as an old Ford, wheel cylinders common so I got my brakes working. I'm still in search of a service manual if I ever come across one. It's a fun old lift.
You should be able to find a parts manual online. I've never seen a torque converter fail.
No new information here, just more questions...
I too have an FJF 040
She is a '69, Continental #DSA-400-68-C-3692, S/N 55758
I have been able to locate a manual for a '71, but that is the closest I have come... I am looking for brake parts, and the torque converter gives up with very little resistance, so I'm guessing there may be some work to be done there. any direction or guidance is much appreciated- Thanks in advance!
I have a FGF-040 as well and I'd like to find out what engine it has. I can't find a tag on it anywhere visible. It is a flathead 4, likely a Continental or Hercules but I'd really like to know. I need a distributor and I don't know where to start. I'd also like to find a manual if one exists. It is a 1957 model.
Are you sure it is a FGF40? What size tires does it have and what engine?
There may be a printed manual available but there would not be an electronic version?
For a truck this "young", there is most likely not going to be anything in electronic format, but most every piece is still available somewhere. the cost of upkeep for a truck of this age is far more likely to be the concern rather than availability. the truck's circuits are all pretty simple.
