Looking at 1954 allis chambers electric fork lift

Anything I should look for in this year of lift? He sayes the battery was replaced 6 yrs ago and sayes they're rated for 4000 #. Everything else works fine. He wants $1000.I figure the battery should be worth that. It's the same vintage of my clark that needs a new battery. Sold my old battery,it weighed 1200 #

+1 to everything johnr_j said.
Allis Chalmers designed and used proprietary controllers in their early electric trucks too, so parts and someone able to troubleshoot any problems would be like getting me out of bed at 2 AM; you might as well just let it lay there.

"it's not rocket surgery"
1. Allis Chalmers did not built an electric tric until the the late 60's - 1965/66.
2. Either way parts to repair would be hard to come by.
3. A 6 year old battery would not be worth very much.
4. If I were you I'd walk away with the $1000 still in my pocket.
