I have an older Hyster S30XL (sn B010B05012H). In the middle of operation the other day, it sounded like it was running out of fuel (propane) and then died. Now it won't start. The battery is strong. I've tried a different fuel tank. I have spark. Compression has been checked. When cranking, I can smell propane. I've checked all of the fuel fittings with soapy water and found no leaks. When I put a piece of wire down into the carburetor, I can hear and smell low pressure propane flowing (I think I'm moving the carb piston or check valve plate/plunger, but I'm not sure).
This unit has the Mazda engine, but I don't have the experience with propane systems. Might the problem be as simple as a clogged fuel filter? I'm trying to determine the problem before I start ripping into components or buying new parts.

UPDATE:
I was able to source service kits for the lockoff/filter unit and the converter unit. Upon disassembly of the converter, I found that secondary seat (the rubber "stopper" controlled by the secondary lever) had damage. Upon replacement, all went back together and the truck is running again.
WHAT I LEARNED:
The main thing that I noticed, at the time of the breakdown, was the smell of propane. Researching that angle, I found repeated information on too much fuel (flooding).

This company put together probably the BEST instructions that I've come across in a long time. Total cost for the two service packets: $40....NICE!

hi mike I usually determine any kind of fault on engine unit by open up air cleaner and spraying with aero start if unit fires and runs then fuel is at fault if unit does not fire then it will be electrical or timing belt its usually a quick solution as to where the fault is
Checked the timing belt. It looks to be OK, but I haven't checked the timing (gotta brush up on using the dwell meter). In the mean time, I've ordered service kits for the regulator and the vaporizer. Based upon what I've been able to research and the symptoms that I've been able to identify, I believe that I have a fuel problem (too rich). This assumption is based upon the smell of propane when trying to start.
