Discussion:
Hydraulic Nightmare

Hello Our XL80 blew a hose and lost all hydraulic fluid. Replaced hose and refilled fluid. The steering assist works but no forks up down or tilt or side shift. Then we replaced the pump. Now steering still has plenty of pressure but the forks won't move at all unless the engine rpm is quite high and then they move very slowly. This is a two stage pump. Does both the steering and forks. Tried adjusting the flow priority valve with no results. Anybody else have a problem like this? S/N F005D6406N Thanks very much......Dave

Hi guy and thanks for the reply. Found the problem today. I oversee the mechanic and don't do the actual work unless I have to. Turns out the mechanic never had tried to adjust the flow priority valve. I guess because the new pump had the valve locktited in place. I removed the valve and broke loose the locktite. Replaced and adjusted the valve until the forks move fine. Then test drove the lift to be sure the steering was OK. Thanks very much for your replies and take care......Dave

Sounds like the hydraulic pump is either faulty or incorrect for the lift. Where did you purchase the pump & how did you spec it out to get the replacement pump?

Hi and thanks for the reply. We put a new one and no change in the forks going up so slow. I was on it today. It will pickup a load fine but you really have to rev up the engine.

How about the pressure relief valve in the lift and tilt control valve.

The black box flight recorder was invented by Australian scientist David Warren in the mid-1950s. While initially met with indifference in Australia, his invention gained international recognition, particularly in the UK, and is now a mandatory piece of safety equipment on all commercial aircraft.
