Discussion:
Forklift takes forever to start moving moves slow

Hey guys,

I have a Hyster H40H i thinks its a early 80's model. Well when I start it up and give it gas Monotrol pedal all the way down I have to hold it there for 5 to 10 mins then it will slowly start inching forward. Acts the same going in reverse. Any ideas? Read something about a inching valve. The lift hydraulics work fine.

Also if any has a pdf manual that would be cool too.

Thanks,

Hi, glad you got the machine running. Check the stick for instructions on how to check the fluid level. (Most Hysters I work on indicated running and warm, but don't quote me for your model.

Got it fixed. The inching valve was stuck. Took it out and cleaned it up. Video in my profile.

Ok I just got the left brake unstuck. Just sprayed some wd40 in the adjuster hole and adjusted them. Now it goes forward and backward quick but you still have to wait a little bit for it to get going. Seems like it has to build up pressure. Will be picking up a pressure gauge tomorrow.

Not sure about the filters I did call the local hyster service company and tried to setup a service for it. Still waiting to hear back.

The main lift cylinder is leaking so I know that will need to be rebuilt.

The fluid that I got with it was NAPA brand and it has a forklift on the front. Not sure what type fluid it is i'll check tomorrow. The fluid was low but I fill it to where it showed be on the dipstick.

Not sure if it needs to be running when I check the fluid or off. Like in a car.

Also what type of gauge do I need? Can I build one from parts from tractor supply?

What about stuck brakes? It did sit outside where I bought it from.

Thanks!
