Cat Lift Trucks (& Caterpillar) P6000:
error code E21

You
I have a cat p6000 propane fork lift. It starts but wouldn't run very good, but would run and could be used some.I cleaned the air filter, shut the propane off, unattached then re attached the fuel line from the tank, it ran like a champ for about 10 - 20 minutes then started doing it again but a little worse. Then We noticed it had an e-21 code which is air flow meter error code. I looked it up and saw a video that shows cleaning the air flow sensor (meter) with carb cleaner. I did that reinstalled and it ran worse. like it will start and run until you press the gas pedal, then it will stall or die completely. I went to our local cat dealer and purchased a new sensor installed it and still the same. I've put new air filter, and even tried running it without the filter, but nothing changes.

I have a Cat P6000, customer changed fuel vaporizer themselves. code E21 is flashing on dash and dash lights flash as well. I have replaced MAF sensor, engine sensor/injector (threaded 2 wire solenoid) on carb and engine now runs smooth but when accelerator is pressed, it dies out. i also tried the pedal dance about 20 times and then replaced throttle position sensor and still no luck clearing codes or getting lift to run proper when pressing throttle pedal. I inspected every wire and connector possible and found no breaks whatsoever. When I press throttle and spray brake cleaner into airbag, lift runs great until it dissipates. What could I possibly be missing?

I bought an auto code reader... a higher end one.( Creader VIII) I got ready to check the forklift out with it, and the connector does not fit anything under there.

You can clear the code with a auto style code reader. The plug socket is under the cup holder on the forklift.

Well, I changed the connector, It had several brakes. It still does the same thing. I can start it and it idles fine at first then kinda starts pulsing. When I press the accelerator, it dies. I haven't gotten the e code cleared, I don't know how other than have the cat dealer send someone out and charge us a 4 hour call out. Would this make it run bad?

Thanks. That's what I thought. They were trying to rape me , and I do a lot of business with them. I think I amgoing to order this kit through someone else. Even if they can get it for me, it will cost more.

I'm back... the 2 wires I soldered are doing fine. The other 2 are not. I guess They were broke under the insulation because they are broke all the way through now. My problem is that one of them broke even with the plug, so there is no fixing it this time. I called the cat dealer and they said I had to buy the whole harness. This doesn't seem right and I can't find the part number to check. When I look up MAF connector, I get thousands of extensions for every vehicle imaginable, but I can't find one for forklift. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The whole harness is about $1000 plus having to change everything out. I would much rather just change what is broken.

Thank you. There was actually 2 wires broke under the tape. I not sure why I didn't think to check the wires except maybe because they were so protected. As far as that goes, I'm not sure how one much less two could have broke. Anyway, after $250 for a part that I didn't need, and a little solder that I did, it is running fine. Now on to the squealing front brakes. Thank you again.

I would check the air flow meter connector it could have a broken wire , the insulation usually holds the broken wire together. You can order the connector and terminals from your Cat dealer. If you have problems with parts post that and I will find the number for you. You could check you fuel filter one is below the regulator under a cast aluminum cover. Depending on the year there are two possible locations for the last chance filter. If the elbow where L.P. enters the carb has screws, it is under it. If not look under the cover above the L.P. pressure sensor on the carb. The filter is a thin screen so be careful it is easy to damage. Post the serial number if you need more information. Good luck.
