Discussion:
diplay card failure

Hello all!! I am trying to track down any information or anyone with experience with display card failure on a Tergo forte 250. I have had issues in the past with the ribbon cable from the TCU to the display card not having a good bite on the cable. I had issues last week of sporadic flickering, and then black (no power, no backlight, no characters). I reset the connector on to a fresh section of ribbon, and that solved it, only to fail again yesterday. Is this a connector issue in the TCU computer, or has my display gone out the door? I have some new connectors coming, and will try that before moving on to the whole card assembly. The new part 90275 is $1700 here in the states, but only $570 on Orange Parts (UK). I did notice the d-sub15 connector on the TCU has next to no tension when I plug in the ribbon cable from the display. Is this something as simple as a fuse on the 5v side of the truck? Any help or direction will be greatly appreciated! (If John in Amsterdam is still lurking on here, any insights? You were invaluable with assistance on my last repair!) Cheers, from the upper midwest US!

I wound up replacing the ribbon cable and connector ends where it connects to the ATC and where it connects to the LCD card. All of the parts I used came from Digi-Key. Header connector at display is CWR-220-14-0000 [DigiKey stock # CSC14G-ND], the D-Sub15 connector at the ATC is A-DSF-15PIII-Z [DigiKey stock # HHMM15H-ND] and the ribbon cable spool is 302-28-14-GR-0100F [DigiKey stock # CN218GR-100-ND]. This solved the issue of a worn ribbon cable and loose connections - be sure to note cable stripe/connector orientations, and make sure connectors are seated tightly/squarely on ribbon. $34 for the parts plus shipping. Cheaper than $1,100 I had quoted for a new card assembly. Thanks for the input from John in Europe on disconnecting main power to reset the relays in the ATC. Everything is working again! I hope this info can help somebody else!

alright John. you are now two for two on repairs. Pulled main power for 30 seconds, booted right up with display working properly. Do we know the 'why' of this fault? Is this indicative of a main ATC-2 about to curl up its little toes and die? If it is the ATC getting short on its life, is there a repair facility you can recommend in Western Europe with experience with these? I looked up the ATC-2 on TruPar here in the states - north of $7,000. the display card assembly lists for $1,700 here (but only $571 on OrangeParts UK)
That's two steaks and Grolsch (or other ale of your choice - La Trappe Quadrupel, perhaps?) I owe you now. Nogmaals, hartelijk dank voor uw hulp - Proost!

The boxes with 12 leds need to be modified by putting a resistance of 82ohm in line with relais K3, the boxes with 4 leds are already modified with this resistance.
I remember you had a box with 4 leds, so i think your problem should be the cable ore the little print that is between the box and the display.
If you unplug and plugin the batterycable to quick you also get a dark screen, just unplug and holdon for a few moments before plugin again.

Fact of the week
The dot-com bubble, a period of large and rapid investments in internet-based companies, peaked in 2000 and saw the Nasdaq Composite index rise by 579%. Then the bubble imploded. As the value of tech stocks plummeted, cash-strapped internet start-ups became worthless and collapsed.
