We have a 2005 gp40k can anyone tell me where the OBD cable plug is on this model.
Thanks
well i guess i stand corrected
not all dealers are the same
i'm not up north, i'm in NC and when it came to dealing with the diagnozer it was laptop specific, had to be registered to the laptop.
We did use disc's to update it at first, then they went to the online cloud update and we had to do it every so often or it would expire and erase the db when that happened, we would have to reload it with a new dvd disc before we could go on.
I guess things are different up there.
we had a cocacola plant here that did get to use it too but their version of it wasn't a full blown version like the dealership version. All it would do is let them run diagnostics and realtime monitoring, no firmware updating or anything.
maybe they have changed that? dunno... all i know is what we had to deal with here.
I had disc version and now cloud. I still have the disk floating around too.
When I first asked for the software our dealer (CAT) didn't say anything. Sold me the software and cable. Tech came out and demoed it with my guys, in the early 2000's. Next version MCFA different dealer (Mitsu) no issues either. Maybe because we have 30 trucks on site? (cat, mitsu, Nissan, and Hyster) Some go back to old VC series cats w/Peugeot engines (love those). In fact when I spoke with the Mitsu dealer to get set up with the latest software and cables I asked if we were odd for doing this and he said he's done it for many of their customers. I doubt they know how many lifts we have though...
Most times we do our own repairs and all maintenance, typically service techs aren't brought in until we're scratching our heads, or we're swamped with plant repairs. I have used dealers and independents and in my area I'm loathed to call anyone. Most indies b/c we have multiple units that are the same get to be parts changers. I've gotten to know a few outside techs that I sort of trust.
As for updating I did an update just today online from the cloud. When I logged in it told me updates available and went ahead with them...I didn't come here to argue and got side tracked reading but I'm here for help clearing a 43 code on a Nissan CPIF2-9W3579. Gone through just about everything we can think of. Looking to trace wires next. we have had a bunch of loom failures that have plagued our Cats.
**** we were told those new evaporators weren't serviceable and weren't rebuilt unit available. So we rebuilt it...Now there are kits out there...seems enough customers complained.
Anyway can you point me in a direction for clearing the code 43? I plan to post my own thread asking and got sideways reading others and then this here...
why is it not acurate?
i used to work for a caterpillar dealer so i know how it works.
there are only a small fraction of fleet customers that have large fleets and 'in house' maintenance teams that are allowed to have a stripped down version of Diagnozer with special permissions through the dealership and MCFA. If you're one of those then i stand corrected. But the general stance of MCFA is it is not available to any unauthorized person NOT trained to use it, and it will not be installed on any device not authorized.
The other thing that supports that is the fact you cannot update it. If you have an older version "pre-online updating capability" of the software you would have to return to the dealership to get an updated version that does work for online updating (cloud based) as you put it. They would supply you with a 'current version' on dvd or supply you with an update link and authorization key to validate it after they reported it to MCFA to put in their database so you would be authorized to do so.
Actually that software does have the capability to update the database files remotely even in the old versions as well as using a dvd disc.
I'm sure by now it's all remotely done.
You are correct, it is only good for like 90 to 180 day intervals, i forget which but i remember having to update mine pretty regularly to keep it up to date.
Since then we dropped the caterpillar line and went to another brand but i did get to keep my version on my old laptop. It cannot be transfered,it is married to the laptop service tag is why. And i'm sure when they installed it on your laptop the service tag or product id was recorded at that time so they could identify you.
If you have any other version of this application that does not have that capability in it, it is not a legit copy.
I am running into issues with the new software being cloud based. Old software had a disc. I need to get it reloaded as it needs to be refreshed every 90 days or so. We didn't need it or log in and now it requires a new activation key! PITA. The other comment on here about "dealer only" isn't really accurate. I'm not a dealer we service our own lifts 90% of the time.
The part number you would order from the parts department is 16A6811320. This cable works for the newer forklifts. Has an extra pin in different positions on the plug.
are you a dealer tech?
you should already get this if you are
if you are not a dealer tech then even if you do manage to get the cable it won't do you much good because the diagnozer program is only distributed to dealers and assigned to each tech's laptop via a service tag off of the laptop.
So in effect they won't sell it to you.
also a GSE handset and cable is different than using the diagnozer program and cable. The GSE handset uses the OBDII connector in the harness, the diagnozer uses the other specific cable with different connector to link to the vsm.
Just FYI ;o)
