I have a Clark C300/40 forklift. The fork lift serial number is 356-37-4370. The transmission pan gasket leaked. After replacing gasket. The truck does not go forward or reverse. Prior to fluid change transmission worked good.
I drained fluid (axle and pan), changed gaskets on the transmission pan, re-installed pan and replaced filter. After doing this I had to start engine to raise mask so I could access trans filler/dipstick location to add fluid. I ran engine maybe 10-15 sec. then shut off. Added fluid and now the truck doesn't move forward or reverse. I think the pump sucked air and is air locked. Is this possible? If so, how do I purge air so pump makes forward/reverse operational.
Also, when I drained fluid only 4-6 qts was removed, I assume the rest of the fluid is in converter and lines (system is 15qt total). When I added fluid it only took 3qts, 1-3 qts less than what came out.

Hello Rick, I think you are getting way ahead of yourself. I am preety sure you check the trans fluid on the front top diff with the engine RUNNING.......I think. It should take around 4 - 6 liters you may have low trans/diff fluid in the asssembly. You do not have to bleed the trans fluid.

The reason for the fluid change was we had a leak of the transmission pan gasket. The pan was removed and gaskets replaced. This is the only reason for the service. Prior to this the transmission was working good. It went forward and reverse as expected, no problems.
As mentioned before the I started the engine without fluid in the pan to raise the mask so I could access the trans fluid fill location. I think running the engine without oil in pan caused the transmission pump to get air and become air locked.
Is this possible? If so, how do I bleed the air out of the pump.

you don't mention a serial number series of this truck, and I wonder what made you decide to service the transmission in the first place, also, if the trans is overfull, there are a couple of places that can happen,,, on some clarks, (c500s) the inching slave cylinder is on the side of the transmission, and if it leaks internally, the brake fluid goes into the transmission, which eventually will soften all the gaskets, clutch material, and seals, and ruin the transmission because of the leaks and faster wear on the clutch plates. this clark has 2 master cylinders, and only the left master cylinder drains into the trans.
you may only have a stuck inching spool or linkage.
