I have a check engine light on (outline of an engine) and am wondering how to check or pull codes to further diagnose the light. The forklift runs great by the way. There is a small diagnosis port behind the battery that has 23 ports on it, but only the FP, E1, +B, VF2, WA and WB ports have terminals in them. Is there a way to short two of the terminals and get a blink code from the engine light?
I have already changed the O2 sensor and am planning on doing a tune-up (plugs, wires and cap). Any info you could share would go a long way, considering I have only a parts list for this forklift.
Thanks in advance.

For anyone who cares...check engine light (engine outlined light) is related to engine emissions. My issue was related to the LP regulator filter being clogged. Replaced the filter and retested. Light turned off as soon as the engine started.
Its is definitely a hard fault. Light immediately came back on once I reconnected the battery. Double checked all fuses. May have to start tracing wires next.
Thanks for the update feebs. I did find the "orange" plug. It is a single wire plug, but it only works with the SAS system. Disconnecting the battery was going to be my next step. Cross your fingers and hope it is just a ghost code.
usually the diagnosis plug by the battery is for the analyser (prob spelt that wrong) and you can short two of the pins out to clear the error code and remove the management light if I remember, you can also just disconnect the battery for 20 seconds to do this. ive found with Toyotas that generally theres two type of codes, one which I call a spike code, which is like a flash error that the ecu/truck has detected but managed to correct itself and therefore truck runs fine but the mil light stays lit, and then theres an active code where the truck has a genuine error and the ecu/truck cant correct itself and the mil light stays lit and the truck runs faulty. easiest way is disconnect battery for 20secs or more then reconnect, start truck up and see if mil light comes back on, if the mil light doesn't come on straight away then run the truck around, full throttle and under load etc to see if comes on, if doesn't then its just a spike code, if it does, note when it appears i.e full throttle etc and at least you have a starting area to look at.
Ill see if i can't find that orange plug, ill keep you updated.
check emails beasty. if it talks about unplugging the "matching" plug to do the self diagnosis bit, I think if memory still alive, it will be the orange plug located under the foot plate on the left side wiring loom.
let me know how you go.
