Discussion:
Cat EP18KT drive gear

Hi,

I've got a Cat EP18KT (2000) with a noisy right drive gear. This costumer has two of these trucks with the same problem, according to them since new. It is a high (like whistling) sound. Is this a common problem ans what is it caused by?

Can someone supply a shop manulal of this gearbox? e-mail in profile.

Regards,

Frits.

This is a known problem.
the problem is in the gearbx, if you tighten the drive wheel it will disapear for a week or two, I think there is a service buleting aboute this problem, MITSU changed gearbx in 2002 because of this. I can try to find old paper if you need.

Indeed it turned out to be the drive motor bearings. Thanks for your help.

Well I can't imagine the noise is this loud all that 10 years. I'm going to unmount the motor and check the bearings.

Thanks for your support.

It is more likely to be the drive motor bearings making the noise (which is very common) and usually causes no problems. If the noise has been there for 10 years, why worry about it now?
