Before tracker and PDA, I used to average 5 jobs a day, order parts, service my regular customers etc, nigh on impossible now with the current structure and setup. The amount of time being dumped into AIM and LTH because of PDA problems must be colossal across the UK.

In our PIT meetings its brought up every month but swept under carpet

Ah well there is my moan for tonight. This is not the company I joined in 93, lucky if we are still here in 2010 unless our Senior Managers address the problems now.

yep the problems with the pda are well known by everybody who use them.the problem is the people who dont have to use them are running the company and think that we are lying about the problems!do four jobs a day and you can quite easily loose an hour and a half just filling the **** thing in!...if it works right!most of the time 'real time working' just isnt practical,mass signitures has never worked,sync times are a nightmare,page change times are a joke...i'm running out of breath...customers hate them ect ect

Useless gadgets, well said, main 1 being my PDA (good for parts ordering). Half my managers think I can reprogram truck logics with it.

i agree with danny.historical bad buisness practices has left barloworld in a very weak position.high rvs on equipment,poor sales performance,throwing money away on usless gadgets and gizzmoes,treating the customer as an inconvenience.needles multi levels of managment and focus groups.

Barloworld on this side of the pond laid of 65 more people on Friday. Everything from techs, sales and office personel, through the 30 something branches they have left.

I dont see how a company with such a big turnover can have such a big loss, but this seems the norm with all of the so called big players, but as you say this cant go on forever in the current climate, this all stems from bad management and constanly doing silly deals combined with big RV's on hire deals!! You can see the writing is on the wall when a company have their own auction site to sell trucks!!, is it barlow-bay!! I can see it being BarloworldRIP!!

Barloworld dont look in too good of a position, here is an extract from their financial reports. No company can sustain making that type of loss for too long.

Barloworld Handling, reporting on its UK results in 2007, said that the year showed continued focus on the key business segments following the restructure that had taken place in the prior year. Yet its pre-tax loss on ordinary activities was GBP6.4 million (USD9.61million), (2006 loss was GBP4.5 million or USD6.76 million), although some GBP4.1 million (USD6.1 million) of that was increased funding for its deficit on the defined benefit pension scheme, where the net pension liability stood at GBP42.3 million (usd63.5 million). This brings the accumulated, pre-tax losses for 2004-2007 to around GBP15.7 million (USD23.5 million). No dividends were paid for 2006 and 2007. Turnover rose from GBP123 million (USD184 million) in 2006 to GBP133.8 million (USD201 million) last year while negative working capital climbed GBP1.5 million (USD2.25 million) to GBP13 million (USD19.5 million) and bank overdrafts soared from GBP15.8 million (USD 23.7million) to GBP22.7 million (USD34.1 million). Stocks also rose worryingly by around 50% to GBP13.2million (USD19.8 million).

Barlows are not in administration they are in production 100% only administration they are in is paying the wages each month
