Discussion:
back fireing/stalling

Hoping someone can help me start to fix my FGC30 forklift. The darn thing backfires after high rev so loud sounds like a shot gun going off. It also will not idle. I'm not sure where to start with a Lp gas engine. Please help me get started.

while your doing what mrfixit suggested also check intake and exhaust manifold gaskets for vac leaks or any vacuum lines that could be leaking.
If the backfiring is consistant then it may be a cracked dist cap or something up that alley but i wouldn't rule out a vac leak at one of the manifold gaskets.
if you have time pull a compression test after you check the valve adjustments. If any cylinders are low you could have a cracked exhaust valve.

For loud backfiring, you can start by checking the distributor cap, rotor, and spark plug wires. Then you could check the valve adjustment clearances.

The concept started in the 12th century, was abandoned in the late 19th century, then reintroduced in 1952. It has since been adopted in many countries.
