Discussion:
Another diesel question

I have a Nissan with a SD22 engine. The fuel filter is equipped with a hand primer pump. The problem is that if the truck sits for, let's say a week, it will not start without priming the fuel. We have attached a hose with a cannister of fuel directly to the injector pump and it does not bleed down.
Is this an inherent problem with this engine and that's why it is fitted with the primer pump on the fuel filter and if not, what else should we be checking.

kevin k is probably correct. filter head has valves inside like an old mechanical fuel pump. Debris under the inlet valve will allow the fuel in the filter to drain back the the tank.

I doubt if it makes any difference, but I misidentified the engine. It is a SD25, not SD22

check for any fuel loss around the primer button. they are common failure.

The 6.354 Perkins Engine depending on how old it is?Are hard to start when cold under 40 f / 5c
But if the unit is not old and worn out they do start fine.
We have installed block heaters in them then they start easy.
On both your diesel engines as long as the filters are good and there are no air leaks so the Diesel drains out. You should not have to bleed them.
It sounds like you have a leak at one of the filters or Banjo line fittings.
The hand Prime pump is just when you change filters.
On Some of the Perkins 6.354 we also have installed Electric charge pumps then bleeding when the drivers run them out of diesel is easy.
