36 Volt Charger Question

Just bought a 36 volt Toyota lift. The used one came with a Workhorse Series 3 charger setup 480 volt 3 phase.
I have 208 Single Phase available.
1. Can this unit be rewired for 208 Single?
2. Can I purchase a good 208 Single phase charger? If so please recommend.
Our use is one hour a day and we have 12-20 hours available to charge between uses. Three phase is available i the building but nowhere near where we would site charger. Single phase is available right at charge station.

thank you,
BlueberryBob

Look into a 15 hp rotary phase converter this will convert your single phase to three phase, then you would just need to match the internal charger settings. I run my 3 phase lathe at home with one, mine is a 5 hp and I paid around 475. A 15hp with digital controls for the resistive load of the charger is around 1700 from American Rotary Phase Converters.

OK. Thank you. Will balance the cost of pulling 3 phase to the charge location vs purchasing a large 1 Phase charger. The single phase chargers look to max out at about 25% - 50% of the available charge amps as 3 phase.
Side note:
Our old fork lift, which is 48 volt, has been on a 120 volt charger for 10-12 years and those batteries have been fine but finally giving out. Not sure of the amps on that charger, but likely only 20-30 amps output.

This is a 3 phase charger and will NOT operate on single phase. As with almost all chargers, you can move to jumpers to allow it to match the incoming voltage in the building but no matter what you do it will not operate on single phase.

We have 3 phase in part of the building pretty far from the best charger location. We have single phase sub panel right at location.

Charger is a Applied Energy Workhorse Series 3.
If I can post or PM photos of the inside panel diagram...I can send that.

Your initial post said that you didn't have 3 phase power? Please clarify.
What is the make and model # of the charger that you have?

I have photos of the wiring panel inside the door of the charger. Is it possible to post photos on this forum?

There is no such voltage as 208 single phase. That is a 3 phase voltage.
If you do have single phase then it is either 220 or 240. You can not rewire a 3 phase charger to work on single phase.
You will need to purchase a single phase charger. They are harder to come by but if you call a battery shop they should have one and will probably offer you some kind of trade.

on the charger data plate you should see the input voltage stated in this format 208/240/480. If so you can have the charger rewired to single phase - if you don't know what you are doing have someone in the battery/charger business do it for you.

sometimes this information is stated on the inside of the charger cabinet door.

You cannot use a three phase charger on single phase unless it is made for both. If the charger is built for both it would be stated on the data plate. You can purchase used single phase chargers. In our area the single phase units are few and far between.

The use of "hello" as a telephone greeting is attributed to Thomas Edison. He is said to have suggested it as a simpler alternative to other greetings, such as "Do I get you?" or "Are you there?".
