Preparations are under way for an aid convoy to Ukraine next month.
On 16 October 2022, the Plant and Hire Aid Alliance is planning a convoy of vehicles representing the plant and plant hire industry that will take aid to Ukraine. Working with Rotary International, the plan is to drive to a warehouse in Košice, East Slovakia, from where the supplies will be despatched all over Ukraine by local volunteers.
Organisers claim this is “a tried and tested route that has made an impact to the lives of thousands of Ukrainians”.
The Plant and Hire Aid Alliance is looking for donations of long-lasting food and baby food, hygiene items, medicines, bandages, any items for elderly or disabled care (such as crutches, wheelchairs, adult diapers), blankets, duvets and sleeping bags, suitcases and stationery for schoolchildren and winter clothing.
The Alliance is calling on supply chain/materials handling organisations to assist by joining the convoy and helping to take donations to Košice for immediate onward distribution to refugees.
The charity is also calling for donations – either cash or the goods listed above.
So far, the Alliance has delivered 1,100 mattresses, 30 tons of food and 50 tons of medical supplies and raised GBP40,000 (USD45,000).
