More than 60 of UK materials handling industry members united last week pursuing eagles, birdies, holes-in-one and, of course, refreshments at the 19th hole.

The British Industrial Truck Association (BITA) held its annual Golf Day at Moor Hall Golf Club on 11 September in warm, dry, wind-free weather, by all accounts.

The event has been a fixture in BITA's calendar since its inception in the early 1980s, arising out of popular demand by association members.

This year, CIT Vendor Finance (UK) Ltd was the winning team of the 18-hole game scored according to the Stableford system.

CIT's Nigel Slaughter says the event is a unique opportunity for colleagues and competitors to network and "play a bit of golf".

"I'm delighted but a little embarrassed that my company team and I won so many prizes."

BITA secretary general, James Clark, labelled this year's Golf Day a "unique blend of gentlemanly sponsorship and fierce competition".

"The UK materials handling industry plays as hard as it works," he said.

Sixty-four players attended the event, Warehouse & Logistics News supplied refreshments and various industry members sponsored the prizes.

The annual event is open to all BITA members and their guests. BITA currently comprises 82 forklift manufacturers, suppliers, service providers and media operating in the UK.

Next year's event on 9 September 2008 will be held at the same venue.
