The increasing variations of paper grades, roll weight and diameter plus the high value of rolls themselves are all factors requiring an extensive control of clamping force on behalf of the operator. Roll diameter and weight are changing and our customers need to increase or reduce clamping force according to rolls to be handled.

Wrong clamping force is one of the most common causes of paper damage, and that's why damage-free handling has always been the goal of Bolzoni Auramo when developing new products. Demand for more efficient handling together with the growing roll widths and weights result in need to have clamps with higher capacity. Bolzoni Auramo has taken this challenge and can offer today a complete range of Paper Roll Clamps for the future demands.

Increasing Demand in Tissue Paper Roll Handling

Forklift truck attachment manufacturer Bolzoni has now the most complete range of clamps for damage-free handling of Tissue paper rolls. "Bolzoni Auramo Tissue Roll Clamp is not a converted standard paper roll clamp," says Lars Petersson, "we design our Tissue Roll Clamp in every detail, from the ground, to be able to offer our customers efficient and damage-free tissue roll handling."

New Specialized Tissue Contact Pads

"Contact pads are the most important part of the clamp attachment," explains Lars Petersson, "as they must ensure the most effective grip without damages to the rolls. In most normal handling situations, the pads are the only parts of the clamp which actually are in contact with the paper roll."

The new Bolzoni Auramo Tissue clamp contact pads have a wide contact area and specialized pad friction surface selected to match the operation requirements.

The pad edge is smooth and well rounded. Pad corners have large radius design, without protruding parts or edges. Good knifing properties when handling tightly stacked and bilge rolls.

• Single Radius Pads for hard and medium-hard Tissue paper grades
  Single radius pads are designed to match the varying roll diameters. Best suited for hard or medium-hard paper grades.


• Triple Radius Pads for hard, medium-hard and soft Tissue paper grades, especially on larger roll diameters
  Triple radius pads have convex upper, lower and side edges. This prevents the pad edges from cutting into the paper. These pads are suitable for all types of Tissue paper, also for medium-soft and soft paper.


• Convex Radius Pads for very soft and hard-to-handle large diameter rolls
  Heavy convex pads have a special form, which convexes outwards throughout the entire pad length. This enables the pad to compress the top layers of the Tissue paper roll and increase the grip. Suitable for very soft paper grades only.

Cut Jumbo Reels Damage Risk

Transportation of jumbo reels requires special methods. In the paper mill warehouses these are normally stored in an upright position, but when transported they have to be rotated to lie on their belly to fit in a lorry or a train. Compared to the transportation of smaller paper rolls, which usually travel in a vertical position only, jumbo reels have to be rotated more often. The risk of damage to the reels increases substantially when they are handled and transported in horizontal position.

Bolzoni Auramo has been involved in developing and providing solutions for jumbo reel handling operations during a long time. In Bolzoni Auramo's product range, there are several rotating roll clamp models with a lifting capacity as high as 10 tons. "Normally we are offering this rotating jumbo rolls clamp with three or four arms and customized height, to fit the customer's roll widths," says Lars Petersson, Auramo OY President.

FORCE-MATIC: Damage Prevention System

The FORCE-MATIC valve functions as a mechanical calculator: it continuously adjusts the clamping pressure, according to the load weight. Installation and regulation are easy.

Although excessive clamping force is the most common cause of paper roll out-of-roundness, this is not the only challenge for the forklift driver. As a matter of fact, with increasing roll dimensions and weights, together with specialized paper, it has also become very important to have enough clamping force. This to avoid damage and also for safety.

The varying paper roll hardness, weights and diameter, plus the high value of the rolls themselves are all factors requiring an extensive control of clamping force.

"In this handling we have very good experience in using our automatic clamping force control system model FORCE MATIC," says Lars Petersson. "Applicable to all new or existing Bolzoni Auramo paper roll clamps, this fully mechanical pressure control system prevents over-clamping causing roll out-of-roundness, and secures heavy paper rolls are handled with enough and optimal clamping force."

This system is able to sense the load weight and to calculate the best possible clamping pressure. This mechanical calculator continuously adjusts the pressure, without any electrical connection.

More than 500 paper roll clamp models

With more than 500 paper roll clamp models listed on the catalogue, and about 280 pulp and waste paper bale clamp models, Bolzoni Auramo and its Sales Engineers are able to advise, support and deliver first class paper handling solutions.
