A Global Container Terminals Inc (GCT) business unit has awarded a contract to NOW Solutions Inc of Santa Clara for complete vehicle and container positioning systems. Terms were not disclosed.
GCT is
redeveloping a terminal in Bayonne, New Jersey and will utilise NOW's global positioning systems for yard equipment, including shuttle carriers, rubber-tyred gantry cranes, heavy-duty top-pick container handlers, empty handlers and reach stackers. GCT is adding a second berth in Bayonne on the Port Jersey peninsula of Upper New York Bay with a new stacking area.
Each highly automated NOW vehicle package provides positioning, inventory, container hand-off, safety and driver's assist features without requiring third-party hardware, displays or user interfaces.
For the marine terminal market, NOW's real-time automated container tracking and control system (RTACTCS) tracks containers, chassis, and vehicles as a transparent by-product of yard activity. During operations, NOW's vehicle instrumentation tracks where an operator goes, what he picks up and where he moves it.
GCT is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
