The demands placed on industrial trucks are continuously increasing: they must be faster, higher and more efficient even when subjected to heavy loads. To put it briefly: mast profiles are subjected to extreme loads during use. For a long time, the profile manufacturers were barely able to keep up with the breathtaking pace at which the materials handling industry was developing. Mast profiles, which had remained almost unchanged for decades, forced the industrial truck manufacturers develop a collection of complex measures to compensate for increased mast lift heights and load pressures. For this reason
Hoesch Schwerter Profile GmbH carried out research to determine how mast profiles could be designed to achieve greater wear resistance and improved suitability for greater mast lift heights. The result: combining the conventional hot rolling process using a suitable material with an efficient machining process makes it possible to meet the highest demands. The "specially engineered milled process", abbreviated as
SE-|M|® was born.
SE-|M|® has a number of advantages to bring customers higher and further:
- the lowest possible tolerances (0.2mm) in the main functional surfaces of the profiles
- an improved wear resistance resulting from the correct material selection and the removal of surface decarburization
- cost reductions when compared with cold drawn profiles resulting from the high degree of automation.
A surface as hard as steel!Surface decarburization occurs in basically all hot production processes. Carbon which is, in the main, responsible for the steel hardness reacts with atmospheric oxygen thereby converting the carbon close to the surface into carbon dioxide (CO2). The consequence of this is that the rated hardness values of the surface are in many cases not reached. In terms of the materials handling industry application, this means that the softer surface layer of the profile wears a little each time the bearing rolls. Practically no wear is determinable when using the special grade profiles, manufactured by Hoesch Schwerter Profile GmbH using the
SE-|M|® process. Customers say that the masts have not worn since the introduction of
SE-|M|® profiles. Replacement of the roller bearings due to wear is no longer an issue when using Hoesch
SE-|M|® profiles.
