Construction and agricultural equipment manufacturer Gehl Company has reported record quarterly net sales of USD119 million for the quarter ended April 2, 2005.

It was an increase of USD34.3 million or 41 per cent from 2004's first quarter net sales of USD84.7 million.

The first quarter sales also eclipsed the prior quarterly sales record of USD95.5 million, posted in the second quarter of 2004.

Construction equipment net sales were up 54 per cent and agricultural equipment was up 16 per cent for the quarter, compared to the first quarter of 2004.

Gehl attributed "significantly improved conditions in the construction market in early 2004" and growth in revenues from new product introductions for the record performance.

Company chairman and CEO William D Gehl said the company was off to a good start for 2005.

"Sales of telescopic handlers have been particularly strong as the rental market continues to strengthen. Our compact equipment strategic focus and emphasis on chasing costs out of every facet of our business have proven to be the right course for the company," Gehl said.
