The Kimberley Ports Authority heavy lift teamAustralia's Kimberley Ports Authority has set a record for its heaviest crane lift, completing a 72 T lift from the vessel Normand Saracen.
The lift involved INPEX cargo known as a ‘Christmas Tree’. The manoeuvre involved advanced planning to ensure the lift weight was within the 80 T capability of the mobile harbour crane (MHC).
KPA purchased the AUD5 million (USD3.34 million) MHC in 2020 to improve the port’s heavy lifting capacity and to provide operational efficiencies to customers.
The crane enables heavy lifts at Port of Broome which would otherwise have to be handled in the ports of Darwin or Perth.
MHCs are purpose-built for utilisation at ports and are highly efficient in handling general cargo, project cargo, containers and bulk materials.
