Ram spreaders for port automation initiative News Story - 16 Mar 2006 ( #251 ) - ANTWERP, Belgium 1 min read Ram Spreaders will supply four single lift spreaders to Gottwald Port Technology (GPT) for a P&O port automation project.The RAM2300 series spreaders will be used in the first phase of the project. GPT and P&O signed an agreement to supply automated stacking cranes with spreaders in 2005.The cranes will operate in the new P&O Antwerp Gateway Terminal, at Deurganckdok, Belgium, by October 2006.The Ram spreaders, slated for delivery in the second quarter of 2006, will be mounted onto GPT cranes for a system test procedure. If the test is successful, additional GPT cranes will be fitted with Ram spreaders.Ram Spreaders' executive director Robert Mills said:"The system will allow P&O to operate its entire container storage area automatically and to seamlessly link ship-to-shore equipment at its terminals to storage areas, logistics systems and onward shipping facilities, including sea, road and rail."
