Daewoo Heavy Industries & Machinery has booked several orders following its Daewoo International Forklift Show 2002.

A Daewoo official told The Korea Herald the show, held this month, drew more than 500 domestic industry executives and 300 dealers and customers from 40 countries.

The show, the first of its kind, would now be held every two years, and would become a showcase for technological development and overseas advancement of the forklift sector.

Thirty-one forklifts were exhibited, including a seven-tonne LPG forklift and three-wheeled battery electric forklifts. "We are seeing a constant growth rate with an international market occupancy of more than five percent," said Yang Jae-shin, Daewoo president and CEO.

"We anticipate the launch of new products to lead to active sales in the second half of this year, (and) an over 20 percent surge in exports with a significant increase in the number of orders."

The company plans to record forklift sales of 300 billion won (USD246.8 million) this year, making up 20 percent of the company's total sales. It would also raise its Chinese market share from seven percent to 10 percent.
