The Fork Lift Truck Association's (FLTA) CEO says FLTA's latest safety campaign is "not rocket science" but simple reminders that can save lives.

David Ellison was referring to the Safety 4MOST campaign that FLTA will launch at IMHX 2007, in Birmingham on March 13-16.

Safety 4MOST is named after four "major elements of forklift safety" identified by the FLTA, management, operator, site and truck.

"There are many other principles that are essential to the safety of all materials handling operators," Ellison said. "There is nothing radically different in this campaign's messages. It's not rocket science."

The messages are contained in specially-prepared packs.

Each Safety 4MOST pack has four double-sided A4 posters of safety advice in cartoon form. The cartoons illustrate a key point on one side and safety principles summarised on the reverse.

Packs can be requested from the FLTA or picked up at IMHX. Those collected at IMHX will include four vouchers giving 20 per cent discounts on FLTA Safe User Group membership, 10 per cent discounts on selected training, 20 per cent discounts on FLTA Daily Checks booklets and an entry form to nominate for an FLTA safe site award.

IMHX visitors will be offered a consultation with Chas Day, a Consolidated Fork Truck Services (CFTS) specialist, who will prescribe CFTS thorough examinations.

The thorough examination is a "health and safety procedure" administered to forklifts more than a year old. Companies operating forklifts without up-to-date thorough examination certificates face prosecution by the UK Health Safety Executive (Forkliftaction.com News #212).
