Trak International, a subsidiary of Textron, has won a USD6 million contract to build 50 rough-terrain forklifts for the US Army.

Trak has built more than 3000 forklifts for the US Army and Air Force since 1990, and won a similar contract from the US Marine Corps last year. The 50 army forklifts are to be completed by March next year.

Trak, also known as OmniQuip, has been under pressure from Textron for its poor financial results in recent years, according to a report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The company has also been in dispute with workers' unions over a proposal to move Trak's welding operations from its Port Washington plant to another plant in Oakes, North Dakota.
