Japanese-headquartered materials handling system manufacturer and integrator, Daifuku, will relocate its automated guided vehicle (AGV) assembly and other operations to a new manufacturing and distribution facility in Shiga, Japan.

Daifuku says the development of the new site is part of a larger redevelopment initiative at Shiga to improve production capacity and distribution efficiency.

“The AGV assembly area in the new factory building features an open-space layout without partitions, allowing for flexible configuration of production lines to meet evolving operational needs,” Daifuku states.

The Shiga Works site will also host a larger space for maintenance parts in line with increased customer demand.

The site has also been developed with sustainability in mind including insulation added to the roof and exterior walls to improve energy efficiency and the addition of a solar power system with a generation capacity of 1.5 MW has been installed to promote the use of renewable energy.

Junji Yano, general manager of production operations, Intralogistics Division, Daifuku, says the new plant has been designed to improve productivity.

“Moving forward, we will continue contributing to the advancement of the manufacturing and distribution industries by strengthening our ability to support the stable operation of equipment delivered to our customers,” Yano continues.
