The installation of a 42T coil handling crane has been completed at the production facility of Austrian steel manufacturer Welser Profile.

The order was booked in 2023 with Koncranes and handover finalised in February 2025. The project including the dismantling of the old 36t coil crane and replacing it with the 175m crane runway and crane power supplies.

The new coil handling crane features a fully redundant coil magnet control system, emergency coil lowering function from the ergonomic cabin, sway control, sock rope prevention and shock load prevention.

Franz-Josef Loibl, head of asset management at Welser Profile’s Gresten Plant says of the project: “Our main objective was to ensure the durability and long-term sustainability of the investment, achieved through the optimal classification and procurement of a process crane”.

“At the same time, we focused on maximising operator safety by introducing several innovations, particularly in danger zone signalling, target positioning and emergency lowering,” Loibl continues.

“The complexity of the project required detailed coordination—especially for delivery and assembly. We’re very pleased with the result.”
