British forklift driver Adam Lopez has broken the world record for running a mile (1.6 km) in a swimming pool, the BBC reports.

Lopez ran 63 lengths of a 25 m pool in Norwich to raise money for a five-year-old girl with spinal muscular atrophy.

The 37-year-old ran the mile in 35 minutes and 24 seconds, 4.5 minutes faster than the existing Guinness world record.

The BBC says Lopez started going to the pool when he was diagnosed with diabetes.

Guinness World Records will review the footage of the water run before the record is acknowledged.
