Those in industry or commerce tend to take forklifts for granted, but for charities, these devices can be a game-changer.
We often report on humanitarian uses for materials handling equipment, but lately, we have seen a few charities - mostly in the United States - calling for donations so they can buy forklifts.
It seems many charities are facing growing demand for their support - and this means moving more and more supplies. Combine that with the profile of charity workers, often older volunteers, and it's easy to see why mechanical assistance is required.
This week's charity quest has a happy ending, but it's not always the case, so it would be great if manufacturers, dealers and fleet operators with under-utilised equipment could jump in and help out.
