There's more evidence of industry consolidation this week, with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd (MHI) and Nippon Yusoki Co Ltd (Nichiyu) signing an agreement to integrate their forklift businesses. The two have co-operated previously, especially in their home market. It's all part of striving for increased efficiency - a trend also reflected in last week's Cargotec restructure announcement which will see the Finnish company shedding jobs as it streamlines its operations. Further tweaks are reported this week for the Swedish operations.
Success these days is about doing more with less - and there's no doubt we'll continue to see larger players merging and smaller ones tightening their belts in pursuit of better performance.
