We hear lots of calls for more attention to forklift training - mostly from trainers. And yes, they have a vested interest in stimulating demand for their services. But there's clearly a need for good operators and training is one component of competence.
The motivation, surely, should not be compliance with regulations. It should be a desire for a safe, productive and innovative workplace.
And, as we read this week, training is not a one-off. All forklift operators should benefit from ongoing training to ensure that they are up to the job and are, in fact, improving their performance, rather than stagnating, failing to get exposure to new technology or, even worse, developing bad habits that are impacting on their performance. And you're hearing that from someone who doesn't even know a trainer!
