Reducing carbon footprint to limit climate change is at the core of the mobile machines manufacturers discussions. From this topic, were born the main milestones of their road map for the Green Transition, with 2025 or 2030 like lines in the horizon for new machines’ generation, using renewable energies.
Thus, hybridization, electrification, hydrogenation are the crossroads in the reduction of the carbon emissions by energy transition.
SNDC, a French company located in Southwest of France close to Toulouse, which designs and manufactures air conditioning solutions for machines and vehicles, has moved in that direction for more than a decade - since 2009. With a wide range of full electric air conditioning systems (12V, 24V, 48V, 80V, 120V and over), originally designed for the forklift and terminal tractor markets, SNDC has now extensive experience in offering multiple versatile solutions and innovative alternatives.
For fleet owners, the challenge will be the timing and the investments for totally switching over a full electric fleet, in compliance with the local policies or more global regulations, in terms of low carbon emissions. Based on its know-how in electric air conditioning units, SNDC offers an alternative way with immediate solutions that can be implemented in ICE equipment to reduce carbon emissions. During loading and unloading operations, the driver often keeps the engine on for thermal comfort inside the cabin. The SNDC “Stop & Comfort” system, which is directly connected to the batteries of the vehicle, allows the driver to benefit from the same thermal comfort when the engine is off. Experiences have shown that when “Stop & Comfort” is used in addition to the original air conditioning system, the guaranteed autonomy is over a 30 minutes break, for a 11°C minimum delta with the outside temperature. An electric and settable safety device is built in the unit to always keep the minimum required voltage in the machine for engaging the engine on again, after the waiting period.
“Stop & Comfort” is designed in 2 models: compact rooftop unit or split system.
Easy to install, the rooftop unit is delivered charged in gas. You only must cut out the roof, to do the electric connection with the batteries and it is not required to be an Aircon specialist.
The split system is more versatile, and it offers many possibilities for the installation. Designed in different dimensions, the evaporator inside the cabin may be fixed at the rear of the operator seat, on the sides or eventually in the forklift’s door. The condenser group (air conditioning compressor built in) may be fixed on the counterweight or on the top of the forklift via a roof rack.
But whatever the design, compact rooftop unit or split system, in both cases the “Stop and Comfort” range offers a lot of advantages: to be ozone friendly with less carbon emissions impact (up to 30% according to the activity of the machine), to save fuel consumption and engine wear (up to 9000€ per year).
In parallel, from these “Stop & Comfort” standard solutions for Aftermarket, SNDC is also able to design tailormade and integrated systems for OEM applications.
