Active feedback in the finger-operated joystick

The requirements on industrial trucks and their operators are increasing continually. Unfortunately, the risk of accidents also increases due to the higher requirements. It is thus all the more important to support the truck operator as effectively as possible. The provision of active feedback through the main control element is the first choice to ensure that the operator senses it without delay, becomes vigilant, and is also able to react immediately.

The latest innovation from Gebrüder Frei: The MONO VIBRO.

This joystick is equipped with haptic feedback. The timing, intensity and also the duration of the vibration can be configured individually. The vibration of the joystick allows the driver to be warned in the event of an emergency or supported with the control of the vehicle. Studies have shown that haptic feedback increases the driving performance and at the same time reduces the visual requirements on the driving task. This is due to the fact that haptic feedback given directly to the fingers enables the operator to process the information without having to take his or her eyes off the task at hand.

Smallest haptic-feedback device in its class

The MONO joystick series provides an optimum combination of performance, safety and flexibility for manufacturers of mobile machinery. The unique and ergonomic design makes the MONO the optimum solution for the operation of functions in industrial trucks such as forklift trucks, agricultural machinery and construction equipment.

But it is not only the haptic feedback that makes the single-axis MONO joystick unique. It also offers a wide range of benefits for manufacturers of industrial trucks.

Size:

A clear advantage is that, due to its compact and lightweight design, the joystick is ideally suited for cabs subject to space and weight limitations. The low installation depth and low overall height of these miniature assemblies makes them the ideal solution for precise control in confined spaces. The joystick’s narrow base allows several joysticks to be installed in one armrest to facilitate the control of several functions. Furthermore, the slim design enables several joysticks to be installed in a closely spaced row to allow several functions to be operated quickly and simply.

Reliability:

Off-highway vehicles operate almost every day in challenging working environments. Harsh working conditions due to dirt, vibrations and extreme weather conditions are everyday occurrences here. In order to cope with these operating conditions, during the development the highest priority was placed on a robust construction in conjunction with an attractive design. The shielded, non-contacting Hall-effect technology makes the joystick exceedingly reliable. It boasts a mechanical service life of five million cycles. With protection class IP68 and an operating temperature range from -40 °C to +85 °C, the MONO really is an ideal control element for all type of truck.

Ergonomics:

The lever’s ergonomic design combined with sensitive control allows it to be operated through the natural movement of the fingers. The levers of the FREI control consoles are exchangeable and freely configurable with regards to form, colour and labelling. Due to the large selection of symbols and colours, individual customer requirements can thus be fulfilled quickly and economically.
