The Battery Show Conference Europe recently announced its full agenda, revealing an exciting three-day, two-track program with perspectives from leading OEMs and Tier 1s including Ford, Daimler AG, Continental, BorgWarner, Nissan, Groupe Renault and many more. View the agenda HERE.

For the first time ever - and following major success in North America - industry-leading events The Battery Show Conference and Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Conference are coming to Europe, uniting industry players in the heart of Europe's manufacturing hub.

One prominent question to be answered at the event is how Europe's battery and electric motive industry can compete on a global scale. Expert speakers from leading vehicle OEMs, battery makers, and energy storage system manufacturers will take to the stage to share their insights and discuss and debate key industry issues.

Held across three days, the two-track event will examine issues concerning the battery supply chain including manufacturing, innovations, regulations, and trends. It will cover the full range of industries, from automotive and utilities through to telecommunications and defence.

DAY ONE
Leading European OEMs Groupe Renault and Daimler and battery supplier LG Chem are among the industry speakers to share their executive insights during The Battery Show Conference's keynote plenary sessions. They will look at the battery and electric motive industries, and share their thoughts on how Europe can build upon its manufacturing base, tackle the challenges brought on by regulations and policy, identify the key growth opportunities, and how that will guide current and future roadmaps.

The conference then splits into two tracks. Track one looks at the growth opportunities and challenges faced by the European stationary storage market.

Growing market
The global battery market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 4.15% from 2016 to 2021. One reason for this growth is the adoption of stationary energy storage systems in Europe - from residential to grid-scale applications. But with major Asian cell manufacturers opening battery-making facilities in Europe, The Battery Show Conference Europe looks at what the future looks like for non-Asian battery manufacturers.

Speakers from the world's top consultancy firms and OEMs will explain how and where significant investment must be made to grow Europe's large-format energy storage industry, which currently hindered by regulatory barriers and a lack of clear standards.

Leading market analysts from Avicenne Energy, Berenberg, and Industrial Minerals will share insights on the latest industry trends and forecasts for the ESS market, as well as electric vehicle and materials markets.

The analysts will forecast how the growing use of pouch cells and the availability of materials will affect the lithium-ion industry, and predict the investment opportunities for different rechargeable technologies.

While legislation is driving the need for EVs and HEVs, countries such as Germany are also embracing renewable energy generation in curbing their carbon footprint. The final session of the day in track one looks at the opportunities and challenges faced by Germany's storage market.

OEMs Renault-Nissan Alliance and BMW will discuss policy standards, the energy storage roadmap, and current projects and consider how OEMs are approaching the use of second-life batteries for stationary applications.

DAY TWO
Day two starts with an examination of the global approach to large-scale energy storage, dominated by the use of lithium-ion by both European and US utilities.

Next-generation technologies such as lithium-sulfur and flow batteries are making inroads in both density and cost, especially in grid-scale applications. Delegates will hear how manufacturing will impact the adoption of next-generation batteries in the next decade, and how innovations in materials are driving performance and reducing costs.

But growth doesn't simply rest on improved performance and cost reduction; soon, more and more EV battery packs will be reaching end of life in vehicles, and without an industrial-scale recycling system in place, how will that affect the lithium-ion battery market in Europe? The last session of the day looks at this issue and suggests ways in which the industry can introduce a closed-loop lithium-ion infrastructure and become more sustainable.

DAY THREE
The final day examines the latest trends and approaches to optimising battery pack design for integration into hybrid and electric vehicles, from sizing and layout of traction batteries to future li-ion stop-start battery systems for mild hybrid applications. Delegates will hear in-depth perspectives onb XEV battery design from Renault, Porsche, Mercedes Benz and Jaguar Land Rover. The full agenda is out now.

The Battery Show Conference is being held in Sindelfingen, Germany, on 4-6 April 2017. Sindelfingen is home to some of the world's biggest automotive companies and technical facilities including Porsche, Mercedes, Audi, Bosch, and EnBW Energie.

Early-bird passes start at €495, book by Friday 10 February to make the maximum saving. Passes can be booked online HERE.

The Battery Show Europe Exhibition
The Conference takes place alongside a supply chain exhibition featuring over 200 exhibiting companies showcasing the latest solutions and innovations in advanced batteries, electric and hybrid vehicle technologies. To register for a free EXPO-only pass, CLICK HERE.
