Tawau Port is getting new reachstackers |
The container handling rate at the Tawau Port is expected to improve after the delivery of a new Terex Fantuzzi reachstacker that will boost yard operations.
Malaysia's
Daily Express reports the current container handling average rate is 14 to 17 moves per hour.
Sabah Ports Sdn Bhd (SPSB) chairman Datuk Karim Bujang is quoted saying the new equipment was purchased to improve container yard operations which, in turn, will boost the port's container handling productivity.
The port handles almost 70,000 T annually, making it the leading handling port among the company's east coast ports.
Bujang hopes that the new addition will help address complaints such as inadequate equipment.
The Terex Fantuzzi model has a lifting capacity of 45 T and is able to stack containers up to five high.
The reachstacker was purchased at a cost of USD425,000 and it will be joined by four new terminal tractors later this year.
