 A CESAB M325 at Chemtura |
Chemicals manufacturer Chemtura Manufacturing UK recently selected CESAB M325 forklifts for its facility in Trafford Park, Manchester.
As a top tier COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards) site, the Chemtura manufacturing plant is required to prevent and mitigate the effects of major accidents involving dangerous substances, with risks to the environment treated as seriously as those to people.
Not only does its materials handling fleet operate across a large site with a number of roads and pedestrians, but some forklifts are needed to transport peroxide and other hazardous chemicals safely and smoothly, with accident prevention a clear necessity at all times.
With 500 T of product moved on a weekly basis, forklift operations need to be reliable and efficient.
Chemtura consulted with Global Materials Handling, a locally based provider already supplying and servicing Chemtura's existing forklift fleet, when it needed to upgrade.
Global's review of Chemtura's requirements led to its recommendation of the CESAB M300 range of four-wheel, diesel-powered forklifts.
A compact steering wheel on the M325 enables operators to manoeuvre easily, with a low centre of gravity aiding stability as the truck moves around the site.
Three CESAB M325 forklifts now work outdoors and in production areas at Chemtura, loading and unloading delivery trucks moving pallets around the site. One of them, which regularly carries the hazardous chemical peroxide, is fitted with the Miretti flame-proof system, part of a European range of explosion-proof equipment certified to ATEX standards.
This has made this M325 suitable for operation in this potentially hazardous environment and contributed to enhanced safety and accident reduction on site.
In terms of the support from Global, Chris Farrell, day team specialist at Chemtura, is highly positive: "Global has maintained our fleet for the last four years and has been consistently reliable and responsive.
"If there's an issue, Global's engineers are quick to come out and they work with the exact attitude and approach that we need on a top tier COMAH site."
